3GPP Established a Dedicated Working Group (SA6) for LTE-based Push-to-Talk (PTT) | |
The 65th 3GPP TSG (Technical Specification Group) held in Edinburgh, the UK from Sep 10 to Sep 17, 2014. In the meeting, 3GPP decided to establish a dedicated working group to standardize the LTE-based PTT application. PTT is an interactive calling mode wherebythe user presses a button for speaking and releases the button for listening. The Korean government already planned to establish a nationwide public safety network based on LTE technology by 2017, so rapid standardization in 3GPP is necessary especially for PTT, D2D (Device-to-Device), IOPS (Isolated Operation Public Safety) and group communication technologies. Within the meeting, TTA collaborated with the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.K. Home Office, French Ministry of the Interior, etc. for PS-LTE, and finally achieved this fruitful result. The countries that have decided to build an LTE-based public safetynetwork as of present are Korea, the UK and the US. A number of other countries including France and Australia are currently reviewing the introduction of LTE technology into their public safety networks. China has already commenced LTE-based public safety network pilot projects in some areas such as Beijing and Tianjin. |
