Standard for emergency call service using smartphone voice recognition function established

At the 82nd Technical Assembly in September,the ‘Mobile Emergency Call Service by Voice Recognition of the Smartphone’standard allowing smartphone users to make emergency calls using their voice in a situation where they cannot use their hands due to an accident or physical threat was established. For this standard, the draft proposal was prepared throughconsultation with Korea’s leading terminal makers, mobile carriers, National Policy Agency and National Emergency Management Agency as part of the ‘National User Convenience/Lifestyle Technology Standardization,’ which TTA started promoting extensively from this year. This standard contains a function which can recognize the situation in whichwords are spoken with a voice louder than a set level as an emergency, and thus automatically make an emergency call. It also transmits the user’s location for emergency rescue. With establishment of the standard, emergency calls can be made by voice only in situations where hands cannot be used, such as a kidnapping or an accident. This will enable early detection of emergency situations together with the benefits of crime prevention and reduction of the rescue team’s search area. TTA will promote smartphones to have this function included as standard.
