ICT Standardization Strategy Roadmap Ver. 2015 established and presented
To actively respond to the rapid changes in the international ICT standardization environment, TTA established standardization strategies for each key technologyreflecting domestic and overseas technological trends and policies. The strategies were laid out in a presentation given on October 30 at TTA . The roadmap was established topromote TTA as an international leader and to improve TTA’s international standardization competitiveness by providing development strategies for standards for keyICT convergence technologies for industrial, academic, research and government sectors. The ICT Standardization Strategy Roadmap Ver. 2015 suggests domestic and overseas standardization strategies (proposals) for 23 key technologies for which preemptive standardization is necessary, ranging from key ICT technologies including 5G Mobile Communications, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing/Big Data, to convergence technologies with other industries including Health ICT, Smart Car and Smart Agriculture, and also ICT standardization for national convenience in 6 strategic ICT areas (ICT Convergence, Software/Contents, Radio Wave/Mobile Communications, Communications Network, Broadcasting and Information Security). Starting with selection of 23 ICT technologies in April, the roadmap was prepared by the Technology Standard Planning Team with around 300 experts from industrial, academic and research sectors participating. It contains detailed standardization plans for each standardization item as well as an analysis of the current status of domestic and overseas 362 standardization items, domestic and international standardization strategies, and plans for technology development, standardization, and securing of IPR.
For the Roadmap Ver. 2015, a presentation hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) and organized by TTA was held on October 30 which drew 245 attendants from companies, universities and research centers. The presentation laid out standardization strategies (proposals) for 23 key technologies and was followed by a review and discussion on the issues raised. MSIP Information and Communications Convergence Policy Officer Baek Gihun, through his congratulatory speech, introduced MSIP’s politic directions, such as ‘strengthening advanced standardization,’ ‘improving international de facto standardization response capacity,’ ‘standardization for national convenience’ and ‘supporting standardization customized to small businesses.’ In addition, Baek expressed anticipation that the Roadmap, as a standardization execution plan for the government’s policy, will serve as a signpost for the selection of new R&D projects in industrial, academic and research sectors or establishment of standards-essential patent strategies for technologies in development. After reflecting the suggestions made at the presentation, TTA will publish a report in December and distribute it as a guideline for industries, academic circles and research institutes.
