The 15th 3GPP SA6 Held in Jeju
TTA hosted the 15th 3GPP SA6 at the Haevichi Hotel Jeju from February 13 to 17. 3GPP is a global partnership project that pursues the standardization of LTE, LTE-Advanced, and 5G mobile communication systems and SA6 is a working group to develop application layer specifications for LTE-based critical communication. TTA has been active as one of organizational partners  since December 1998. At the meeting, the Release 14 Stage 2 Architecture Standards were finalized for the 3GPP critical communications including mission-critical video (MCVideo) and mission-critical data (MCData). Relevant technical reports were also approved upon the completion of study item on the use of multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) for mission-critical services. In addition, the group reached an agreement to conduct new Release 15 Study item for architecture of the future railway mobile communication system (FRMCS). The normative work on service requirement for FRMCS is currently discussing in SA1. In particular, the group decided to pursue the standardization of some functions of mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT) that have been left incomplete due to their lower priority among the functions defined in the Release 13 and Release 14 specifications. This is expected to lead to a technical evolution enabling the 3GPP critical communications network to offer more completed functions.
