Korean Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Technology Goes Global
TTA (Telecommunications Technology Association) and the GSMA concluded a co-operation agreement on the standardization of mobile communication services at MWC 2016 Barcelona, Spain on 22nd February.
This co-operation agreement defines the process of participation to each other party's standardization work as well as adoption of a complementary approach to the standardization process of each party's respective related standards.
It was agreed to identify the mutual interest work area as “Coordination of IMS interoperability," which can be interpreted as a prior action for the approach “TTA's VoLTE interoperability standards" as GSMA specifications. The two parties have been in discussions on the adoption of complementary approach to the standardization process as the TTA’s standards have already been developed and successfully deployed. Thus, the two parties have come to make a comprehensive agreement to cooperate in the standardization of fields of mutual interest.
TTA expect that the global interoperability of VoLTE services will be possible if the GSMA adopts the VoLTE interoperability standards through this co-operation agreement and it will helpful for the GSMA Network 2020 project for global interoperability and would both benefit from adopting a complementary approach to the standardization process and avoiding duplication of technical work.
