National Standard for Arrangement of Korean Character (Hangeul) on Telephones Established | |
National Standard for Arrangement of Korean Character (Hangeul) on Telephones Established After facing rough going for about 15 years, the national standard for arrangement of Korean character (Hangeul) on telephones (KCS.KO-05.0046) was finally established and announced on June 27. The standard recommends use of Cheonjiin for feature phones, and Cheonjiin, Naratgeul and SkyII for smartphones. The standards were chosen as they consider from a practical point of view both the current condition of the mobile phone market and consumers’ rights. For establishment of the standard, TTA played a leading role in driving the agreement of 6 related companies (3 manufacturers and 3 mobile service providers) on royalty exemption and standardization. TTA now plans to establish standards for arrangement of Korean character (Hangeul) for various mobile devices in conjunction with Future Korean Keypad Standardization Forum. |
