Standardization Consultation Programs for Developing Country in 2015

Based on the standardization experiences and expertise that TTA has accumulated over the past 25 years, TTA has been running consultation programs for developing country in the Asia–Pacific region since 2008 that greatly improve the standardization competencies of the target nations. For this year TTA responded to Indonesia’s request for in-depth consulting with a special focus on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards and testing methods. For most ICT products developing nations depend on imports due to their lack of technological and human resources, as well as capital, needed to establish and operate proper test labs. A large number of these countries, which do not have competent test labs, are requesting support through international organizations. Accordingly, a TTA team visited Indonesia in June to examine their conditions and conformity assessment system, and discussed in detail Indonesia’s request for consulting and cooperation plans going forward.

It was agreed that TTA will first provide more extensive technical consulting for EMC standards at a regional standardization workshop to be held jointly with the ITU in October. Then, in November when officials from Indonesia will visit Korea, TTA will transfer its test methods through training at an EMC-related test lab. TTA anticipates that such efforts will help narrow the standardization gaps of developing nations.
