WPC 1802 meeting
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) held a regular general meeting at Hotel Le Méridien Seoul from April 9 to 13 to share the latest information on the Qi standard and discuss future orientations. It was the third time for Korea to host a WPC general meeting, which was immaculately organized by TTA. The meeting was attended by those working on standards in 60 WPC member countries, who had intensive discussions over the requirements for the next-generation standard 1.2.5 version and the standardization for medium-power devices (> 60 W) such as laptops and power tools. Wireless charging technologies have long remained in the spotlight for their strong potential, and Apple’s joining the WPC last year served as momentum to double the number of the WPC member companies, and recently the market has witnessed rapid increases primarily in smart phones and wearables. Now, the WPC aims to expand the standard to a range of applications including laptops, home appliances, and kitchen appliances to apply wireless charging to many different industries.
