ATSC and TTA Signed MOU for Standard Compliance Evaluation Program Development
TTA and the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the Conrad Hotel, Seoul on March 27 for cooperation in the development and global promotion of ATSC 3.0 standard compliance evaluation programs (ATSC 3.0 evaluation programs). The ATSC 3.0 evaluation programs will include an ATSC 3.0 standard compliance test program, test tools, and certification systems, with the aim to ensure the provision of high-quality ATSC 3.0 broadcasting content to viewers and interoperability between content and receivers. The signing of this MOU is expected to contribute to vitalizing the broadcasting market and advancing into overseas markets by allowing local broadcasting equipment makers to apply the ATSC 3.0 evaluation programs beforehand. ATSC 3.0 is a highly scalable broadcasting standard that offers more than 30% improved transmission capacity compared to ATSC 1.0 (current digital TV standard in Korea), enables simultaneous delivery of 4K UHDTV and mobile HDTV programs in a single channel, and supports Internet protocols as in communication networks. UHDTV broadcast by local terrestrial broadcasting stations (KBS, MBC, and SBS) commenced on May 31 is based on this standard.
