5G Vertical Service Framework (SPG35) Committee Establishment and Kick-Off Meeting

At the Telecommunications Standardization Steering Committee Meeting held on May 30, the establishment of a project group was approved for the 5G vertical service framework (SPG35) under the 5G Special Technology Committee. The new committee was founded as domestic industry players (Qualcomm Korea, Samsung, LG, KT, and others) called for the adoption of Korean standardization and cooperation with relevant overseas organizations as the 5G-system-based vertical industry is expected to accelerate in convergence with automobiles, energy, factory, medical, and media. The SPG35 kick-off meeting was held at a TOZ meeting room in Seohyun, Bundang, on June 19 to elect Park Seong-il, Director of Qualcomm Korea as committee chair and Jung Seong-hoon, Director of LG and Park Dong-ju, Division Head at Ericsson LG as vice chairs. At the meeting, SKT gave a presentation on the trend of 5G-oriented convergence service from the view of business players, getting the keen attention of the committee members. Under the leadership of the committee chair, there was also a discussion on the mid- to long-term plans and direction of standardization. The next meeting will be held on July 27 at 4:00 p.m. at TTA.
